Personal Broadcasting Systems
How a person broadcasts online, from a home or office, is similar to the big broadcasting networks, like ABC, BBC, CBC, CBS, NBC and FOX, but the equipment you or I might use is considerably smaller
You might be wondering, What am I talking about, and How much will all this cost?
I’m talking about setting up a small audio-video system in your home or office for $1-2000. You can spend $10-20,000, if you prefer, but it's not necessary.
If you invest $1000 in a personal broadcasting system (PBS), you can have a small but functioning online broadcasting system, designed for you and your friends.
You can also make improvements to your online PBS, by investing a few hundred dollars a year. Over ten years, you can create a totally professional system.
In the world of broadcasting, it’s all about quality. ie. video quality and quality of sound. The more you spend, the better you will look in online broadcasts, but excellent quality in sound and video takes years to develop, and can cost $5-10,000 and more.
At the lower end of broadcast quality, we find Smartphones. A Smartphone can function as a handheld PBS, but a Smartphone is not a real PBS, because the picture and sound quality is very limited. It’s hard to look like a big star on a small screen. Think of a Smartphone as a practise PBS. A bigger stage is the natural next step.
Here are some of the stages you might consider in creating your personal PBS.
- $1000 PBS - Computer Camera and Audio, or USB camera and microphone
- $2000 PBS - Computer, Audio Recording Programs, 2 Microphones, Focusrite Scarlett
- $5000 PBS - Multitrack Mackie Mixer, Recording & Mastering Programs, Live Show Recordings
- $10,000 PBS - Multicamera Video Switching, Video Editing, Music Videos
Online broadcasting is a brand new science. We're still learning what works, and what doesn't work. So, let’s start at the beginning, and take a look at Personal Broadcasting Systems (PBS), that cost only $1-2000.
